Lastly, immunosuppressants such as prednisone and Humira must be stopped prior to surgery.

They also will need to be held for a period of time afterwards, as they can greatly increase the risk of staple line leaks. 

If you take an immunosuppressant, click here for more detailed information on your specific medication and be sure to notify your provider at your pre-op/consent visit.  Failure to properly manage these medications prior to surgery could result in your procedure being canceled!

  • Prednisone
  • Methylprednisolone
  • Medrol dose pack
  • Methotrexate
  • Plaquenil (generic: hydroxychlorquine)
  • Remicade (generic: infliximab)
  • Humira (generic: adalimumab)
  • Enbrel
