  1. Hello,

This was very informative and I look forward to meeting to find out which surgery is best for me.

    Thank you,

    Lorri

    1. Ok Laura I sent your info to our patient service representatives, sometimes it takes them a day or two but they should be in touch.

        1. For our cases at JourneyLite, 99% of patients go home the same day. For our cases at Jewish Hospital, most stay overnight. Roughly 75% of our cases are at JourneyLite.

  2. What are the costs for surgical options if not covered by insurance? What payment options do you offer if insurance doesn’t cover?

  3. If my doctor recommended that I get weight loss surgery, and I choose the vertical sleeve would Medicaid or Medicare cover it?

    1. Yes as long as you meet their criteria. Call 513-259-2555 and they can discuss further with you re: requirements from Medicare and Medicaid.

    1. Hi Vicki,
Initial consultations are $199, and follow up visits are $99. At each visit you see a doc or a nurse practitioner as well as a registered dietitian.

    1. 65 is a regular age limit, we do operate on patients over that but we would need to get medical clearance from your PCP first. So you might want to start there and make sure it’s a go.

  5. I’m very interested in the gastric sleeve. I’m just wondering if the list of employers in the slide. show all employers that would allow the insurance plans to cover, or if there may be some not listed?

    1. There are many that are not listed Valerie, the video just mentions a few of the major employers around us that cover bariatric surgery.

  6. if i make an appointment ,do i need to bring my medical records with me ? do i need a release from my primary Dr ? will any of these procedures help with my kidney disease ? ( diabetic related )

    1. Weight loss surgery does not typically directly cause an improvement in kidney disease, however it may arrest the progression especially if it is related to diabetes. Usually at the first visit we don’t need extensive medical records, although we may request them at some point.

  7. Question, I’m 194 lbs 5’2 High cholesterol, joints Hurt , a fracture of the hip from Car Wreck , under active thyroid, Blood Pressure and my Sugar up, and I need to take care of my husband that has Parkinson.
I have United health care insurance, and in Jan I could be on Medicare. Do you think insurance would help to pay?

    1. It depends on many factors, I would recommend giving our patient service reps a call at 513-259-2555.

  9. Hi Dr. Curry,

I am a 21 year old girl who’s been on the heavier side most of her life. At the age of 12 I was diagnosed with Scoliosis… I ended up having 5 back surgeries. I put tons of weight on during and after also causing me not to have periods. I now suffer from PCOS.. I’ve been thinking about doing the sleeve for 3 years now. I’m scared I have some spots on my stomach that’s tender. I’m not sure what surgery I should do but I know something has to be done !!

    Thank you

    1. Don’t worry we have a great team that can guide you, and we always discuss all options at the initial consult. Just call 513-259-2555 and someone can help.

  10. Hi Dr. Curry!

I was reading some of the comments on the first page of the video page and noticed that many people who had some form of one of the surgeries that you do (you may have not performed them) complained that they had gained all their weight back! So I am wanting to do a surgery but not sure which one yet, but am wondering what the point of doing it would be if you gain the weight back? How does this happen? ( Okay eating I am sure…but…) I mean I thought the surgery was to help to not eat as much. I am just trying to understand it.

    1. Weight regain after bariatric surgery does happen in some cases. Usually I see 3 reasons: 1) eating too many soft carbs 2) no exercise 3) not coming in for follow-up appointments.

It takes work, these surgeries are not magic or miracles, they are just tools.

  11. I saw the prices listed above on a link. A lot of times prices lower for self pay instead of going Thru insurance companies. Is this the case with your facility? Do you give discounts on self pay and did that cost include all the pre surgery testing?

    1. The listed self-pay prices are already maximally discounted.
